Lukamba Gato juntamente com demais Quadros do Partido que conseguiram sair do centro da cidade de Luanda, concretamente nas proximidades do Largo Serpa Pinto (Ingombota), furaram o cerco aniquilador e mortífero, romperam às emboscadas e marcharam destemidos, passando pelo largo da Maianga, Prédio do Livro, Largo da Sagrada Família, Largo Primeiro de Maio, Bairro Popular e Kazenga até atingirem a zona de Viana. Foi um percurso bastante duro. Não foi fácil sobreviver às emboscadas nem aos tiros que saíam inesperadamente dos prédios. Alguns tombaram heroicamente ao tentar esquivar as balas disparadas de forma indiscriminada pelas milícias armadas com AKM-47 e metralhadores PKM. Em uma dessas emboscadas, nas áreas do Kazenga, uma rajada atingiu mortalmente um de seus seguranças, de nome Praia, e feriu o General Sete-Vidas. Mesmo debaixo de fogo intenso, o então Brigadeiro Beguin, que fazia parte da caravana, baixou orientações para que o General alvejado fosse transportado a todo custo e não ser abandonado no terreno. Também valeu a intervenção de Sérgio da Costa Campos, que fez os primeiros socorros e estancou a hemorragia, tendo, para o efeito, rasgado a sua única camisa, para servir de ligadura. Foi uma solidariedade enorme, própria dos soldados das FALA. – Nos momentos de extrema complexidade, a entreajuda era a palavra de ordem. Nessa onda solidária, importa destacar o papel de um de seus emblemáticos seguranças, Lucas Mangope (de feliz memória) e de um outro, o Justo, ambos Comandos Especiais da guarda do Dr. Savimbi, destacados para garantir a segurança do diplomata Lukamba Gato, ex-representante da UNITA em França.
O apoio de todos foi indispensável. Já agora, lembrar a força dada pelo jornalista Felix Miranda (de feliz memória).
Apesar dos ferimentos, o General Sete-Vidas e seus companheiros continuaram com a marcha até atingirem as áreas seguras, nas matas do Bengo e em Caxito, onde foram prontamente socorridos pelos Generais Kamalata Numa e Arlindo Chenda Pena “Ben-Ben” (de feliz memória) – esse último, também acabado de chegar, sendo sobrevivente do mesmo cenário.
Dois anos depois, isto é, em 1994, no Huambo, aquando da Operação Restauro, levada a cabo pelas Forças Armadas Angolanas – FAA, o General Sete-Vidas sai incólume de mais um ataque ao seu Posto de trabalho montado no Cambiote, arredores da cidade do Huambo, quando os BMP2 , que perseguiam o Carro que transportava o lendário General Demóstenes Amós Chilingutila (de feliz memória), fizeram um incursão relâmpago fora do perímetro da anciade, acabando por surpreender um grupo importante de membros da Direcção Política da UNITA estacionado no Cambiote. Sem possibilidade para mais nada, a não ser a de proteger as suas vidas, foram obrigados a abandonar o terreno.
Segundo um dos sobreviventes do Cambiote, o kota Florentino Kassanje, na altura, Director de Gabinete do Ministro da Coordenação Político-Administrativa, o General Lukamba Gato, revelou-me que, foi nesse ataque dos BMP2 em que o Dr. Kapapelo (de feliz memória) foi alvejado na clavícula, tendo perdido o seu segurança no local.
