RESISTÊNCIA DOS MÁRTIRES DA REPRESSÃO COLONIAL DEVE SER INSPIRAÇÃO PARA ANGOLANOS – MPLA
O MPLA, no poder em Angola, expressou hoje renovado reconhecimento pela determinação e resistência dos mártires da repressão colonial da Baixa de Cassanje, considerando que a acção destes deve ser “fonte de inspiração para todos os cidadãos”.
Numa declaração, alusiva ao Dia dos Mártires da Repressão Colonial, que hoje se assinala, o Movimento Popular para a Libertação de Angola (MPLA, no poder desde 1975), “reitera sentida e patriótica homenagem às vítimas, com o firme compromisso da preservação do legado histórico”.
O Bureau Político do MPLA afirmou que, ao celebrar-se o 04 de janeiro, o partido expressa “renovado reconhecimento pela determinação e resistência do povo angolano à colonização e maus tratos, reflectidos nas acções que levaram o Massacre da Baixa de Cassanje, perpetrado em 1961, pelo regime colonial português contra cidadãos indefesos”.
Há 62 anos deu-se, na Baixa de Cassanje, província angolana de Malanje, a considerada primeira rebelião contra o regime colonial português, encetada pelos trabalhadores rurais da Companhia Geral de Algodões de Angola (Cotonang), então empresa angolana produtora de algodão, com participação belga, vigente na época colonial.
Esta revolta dos camponeses é considerada um dos eventos que marcaram a história de Angola na luta pela independência, alcançada em 1975.
Para o MPLA, a acção de bravura dos camponeses da Baixa de Cassanje, “mais do que justa defesa de direitos”, constitui um sinal inequívoco de defesa incondicional da pátria.
“Por esta razão, o heróico feito de 04 de janeiro de 1961, deve ser transformado em fonte de inspiração para todos os cidadãos, de Cabinda ao Cunene, a fim de valorizarem a data, cuja dimensão histórica obriga a permanentes manifestações de reconhecimento aos seus mentores, a quem a pátria e os seus filhos serão eternamente gratos”, lê-se na declaração.
O partido saúda ainda todos os angolanos que, ao longo da trajectória de luta, têm contribuído, com elevada postura cívica, para a preservação das maiores conquistas, das quais se destacam a independência nacional, integridade territorial, a paz, unidade e reconciliação nacional”.
