EXÉRCITO INICIA BUSCA DO JORNALISTA DESAPARECIDO
Brasil – O exército brasileiro juntou-se, durante a madrugada, às buscas pelo jornalista britânico Dom Phillips, e pelo seu guia brasileiro, Bruno Araújo Pereira, que desapareceram no último Domingo na floresta da Amazónia, na região de Javari no Brasil
Através do Twitter, o Ministério da Defesa brasileiro afirmou que as forças armadas estão à procura dos dois desaparecidos, tendo sido realizadas buscas nos rios Javari, Itaquaí e Ituí, no interior da floresta.
Já na terça-feira, vão ser accionados mais meios, nomeadamente um helicóptero e três meios aquáticos.
Dom Phillips, correspondente de longa data para o jornal britânico The Guardian, passou uma grande parte da carreira a investigar e a documentar a vida das tribos indígenas no interior da floresta, nomeadamente os povos isolados que nunca entraram em contacto com o resto da civilização.
Já Bruno Araújo Pereira é considerado um especialista em tribos indígenas da Amazónia, e trabalha há anos na Fundação Nacional do Índio (Funai), para proteger estes povos isolados da destruição da floresta tropical, seja por força das alterações climáticas ou da desflorestação intensiva.
Segundo o The Guardian, os dois desapareceram no domingo enquanto viajavam de barco pela região de Javari, uma zona conhecida pelos povos isolados, mas também por operações mineiras ilegais e pelo tráfico de drogas. Dom Phillips viajou com o objectivo de entrevistar os habitantes locais, para um livro sobre conservação.
Antes da entrada em cena das forças armadas brasileiras, as buscas foram conduzidas pela Funai e pelo Observatório dos Direitos Humanos dos Povos Indígenas Isolados e de Recente Contacto, que afirmou no Twitter que as buscas em Atalaia do Norte, o ponto de entrada para a região de Javari, foram inconsequentes.
Na sequência dos contactos combinados pelos dois homens, era suposto estes terem chegado a Atalaia do Norte no domingo de manhã, entrando por um rio na região. Na sexta-feira, os dois chegaram ao lago de Jaburu a uma base da Funai e, no domingo de manhã, na comunidade de São Rafael, combinaram uma entrevista em Atalaia do Norte, a duas horas de distância, com um líder indígena local que queria discutir “invasões intensivas” das comunidades.
Phillips e Pereira acabariam por não chegar ao destino. Os dois tinham 70 litros de gasolina num barco novo, e comunicações por satélite, tendo material suficiente para fazer a viagem e regressar.
O jornalista britânico estuda há 15 anos as tribos isoladas da Amazónia e da região de Javari, uma região onde existe a maior concentração de povos isolados e nunca antes contactados pelo resto do mundo. Em 2018, Phillips viajou com uma comissão da Funai e documentou as interacções entre a tribo Marubo, contactada pela primeira vez há cerca de 100 anos, e tribos locais isoladas.
