Na manhã de 28 de outubro, a deputada Idalina Valente, porta-voz da 147ª Conferência da União Interparlamentar (UIP), esclareceu o motivo da ausência do presidente da UNITA, Adalberto Costa Júnior, nas actividades protocolares deste evento que Luanda acolheu de 25 a 29 de outubro. Em uma entrevista no programa “10&10” da Rádio Nacional de Angola, a deputada do MPLA explicou que a ausência do líder da UNITA não foi motivada por desentendimentos ou má fé.
A UIP, segundo Valente, possui regras próprias que estabelecem diretrizes para a cerimónia inaugural, dando prioridade à participação de delegados estrangeiros e nacionais. Para garantir a representatividade, decidiu-se que todos os membros da Comissão Permanente da Assembleia Nacional, incluindo três dos quatro líderes dos partidos políticos, deveriam participar da cerimônia. No entanto, um erro na distribuição dos convites levou à confusão.
Segundo a mesma, o presidente da UNITA, Adalberto Costa Júnior, não faz parte da Comissão Permanente, e essa discrepância passou despercebida pela comissão organizadora. Após a constatação desse erro, esforços foram feitos para corrigi-lo. A deputada Idalina Valente, em nome da Comissão Organizadora da Assembleia, apresentou desculpas públicas pelo ocorrido e reafirmou que não houve motivação política ou qualquer intenção de causar constrangimentos.
