A República Democrática do Congo (RDC) expulsou o embaixador ruandês no sábado (29), depois de acusar Kigali de apoiar os rebeldes do M23 que obtiveram conquistas no leste do país conturbado.
A expulsão anunciada pelo porta-voz oficial, Patrick Muyaya, ocorreu após uma reunião do governo para avaliar a situação de segurança na República Democrática do Congo.
Os últimos avanços dos combatentes rebeldes levaram a missão de paz da ONU a aumentar seu nível de alerta e fortalecer seu apoio ao exército.
Muyaya indicou que nos últimos dias foi observada “uma chegada maciça de elementos do exército ruandês para apoiar os terroristas M23” contra as forças da RDC.
Ele acrescentou que, dado o apoio de Ruanda aos rebeldes, o conselho de defesa liderado pelo presidente Félix Tshisekedi decidiu dar a Kigali 48 horas para retirar o embaixador Vincent Karega.
Combatentes rebeldes M23 assumiram o controlo de uma área perto da estratégica rodovia RN2, na província oriental de Kivu do Norte, disseram autoridades locais e testemunhas à AFP.
Ruanda nega apoiar o movimento e, em vez disso, acusa a República Democrática do Congo de apoiar um grupo rebelde hutu envolvido no genocídio de 1994 contra o grupo étnico tutsi.
Um relatório de especialistas independentes da ONU determinou em agosto que Kigali forneceu apoio directo ao M23.
O M23, grupo Tutsi de maioria congolesa, retomou os combates no final de 2021 após anos de inactividade, acusando o governo de violar um acordo para desmobilizar seus combatentes.
Desde então, assumiu extensões do território de Kivu do Norte.

O Ruanda registou hoje “com pesar” a decisão da República Democrática do Congo (RDCongo) de expulsar o seu embaixador em Kinshasa e anunciou ter colocado em alerta as forças de segurança ruandesas na fronteira.
“É lamentável que o governo da RDCongo continue a culpar o Ruanda pelas suas próprias falhas de governo e segurança”, escrevem as autoridades ruandesas, em comunicado hoje divulgado.
